Message from the PresidentGreetings and welcome to St. Mary's County NAACP #7025's website!
On February 12, 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was created to secure for all people the rights guaranteed in the 13th (end to slavery and involuntary servitude), 14th (equal protection under the law), and 15th (right to vote) Amendments to the United States Constitution. Today, the NAACP's mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color. The NAACP envisions an inclusive community rooted in liberation where all persons con exercise their civil and human rights without discrimination. The St. Mary's County NAACP #7025 works diligently to achieve the vision and continue the mission of the NAACP. Our branch has hosted college and career readiness events, community updates regarding education, law enforcement, and health, voter registration drives and voter education (Souls to the Polls), health fairs, housing seminars (Mortgages and Muffins), and more. |
We have worked with, established partnerships, and met with local officials, other NAACP branches, local churches, and community organizations to keep the community informed and advocate for social justice, equality, and equity. You can find more information by clicking on the links.
We cannot accomplish the mission and achieve the vision of the NAACP without our members who serve in various roles and on the branch's committees. However, we need your help to continue to advance the mission because the vision has not yet been realized. The struggle continues!
Ours is not the struggle on one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part. - John Lewis, Across That Bridge: A Vision for Change and the Future of America
You can serve and do your part by:
Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. - Martin Luther King Jr.
