Petition - Anti-racism curriculum
Please sign this petition to call for an anti-racism curriculum
Focus: Viewing the curriculum and all areas that impact students, staff and families through an equity lens.
The NAACP and community members are deeply concerned about systemic racism and its harmful impacts on both students and our community, and are committed to working for racial equity. We are circulating a petition to call upon the St. Mary's County Board of Education (BoE) and the SMCPS to implement and enforce the state-mandated and locally-approved Equity in Education policy, and to ensure that an SMCPS education enables students to understand racism, privilege, and justice.

Highlights:
Highlights:
- The CSMC should enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the YMCA of the Chesapeake to further specify the business model for our County's YMCA based on the needs and characteristics of the community.
- Based on the study's findings, St. Mary's county Government (SMCG) should move to break ground on the YMCA building in FY2l using its current committed amount of $14.5 million.
- Lexington Park should be host to the first YMCA location in St. Mary's County. The County should anticipate and support other YMCA locations in the future.
- Three County-owned sites as being appropriate for the YMCA location. In no particular order: a. Shangri-La Drive(Property next to Lex Pk Library . Nicolet Park and property next to Great Mills Pool. r recommendation
- SMCG and the YMCA should work together to ensure that all families feel comfortable inside the facility and its surrounding area. SMCG should explore methods beyond policing to increase public safety, such as well-lit, cleaner streets and sidewalks, "place making" strategies for Lexington Park, and property improvement and other business incentives. The YMCA will, in-turn, make the rest of the community feel safer.
TRI-County All Community Collaborative ( TRACC)
Partners in our region have come together to enhance and promote a deeper understanding of race and race relations in St. Mary’s County and the entire tri-county region. We are educating and mobilizing to help build a fair and just community for all. It began with The Big Conversation Partnership for Dismantling Racism & Privilege in Southern Maryland initiated at Middleham and St. Peters Episcopal Parishes in Calvert County and is now made up of churches, organizations, agencies and citizens in the tri-county. In St. Mary’s County as a means of sharing collaborative activities and events for St. Mary’s County and the entire region, the Tri-County All Community Collaborative (TRACC) was formed.
