On October 24, 2009 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People St. Mary's County Branch celebrated its Annual Freedom Fund Gala at the J.T. Daugherty Conference Center in Lexington Park. With more than 140 guests in attendance this event raise over $5,000 in donations and sponsorships. Sponsors for this event included: St. Mary's County Human Relations Commission, LOTT Enterprises of Maryland, Inc., UFCW Local 400, Carter's Outdoor Furnace, SMECO, PNC Bank, Mattingly-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., and CSC. John Barnes, Executive Director of American Civil Liberties Union/National Capital Area served as the guest speaker. The officers and executive committee of the branch extend our sincere appreciation to all those who helped make this event successful, especially our NAACP members.
